Lines wrapped around the block on the first day Apple released its new iPad 2 in stores. It’s been almost one year now since the release of the original iPad, which fueled a great technological revolution. Apple has made a lot of new improvements to the nifty gadget, but ultimately how much greener is the new iPad 2?

The new iPad 2 is 33% thinner, lighter, boast a longer battery life, better graphics, a faster cpu, front and rear facing (720p recording), cameras as well as a HDMI output. The iPad 2′s thinner and lighter stature means that it requires fewer materials than the previous iPad to produce. Just like the older version, the iPad 2 is also free of arsenic, BFRs, mercury, PVC, and is highly recyclable. If you’re thinking about getting an iPad 2 anytime soon, consider these new benefits!

Film Screening: The Next Frontier

Join us and watch the screening of The Next Frontier: Engineering the Golden Age of Green: Renewable, clean energy technologies on Tuesday, March 29 from 12-1:30 p.m. at 370 Dwinelle Hall. Commissioned by the Professional Engineers in California Government, this new documentary film takes the viewer around the world in search of renewable, clean energy technologies and policies that will address the serious problem of excessive carbon dioxide emissions and our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. 3 Things NOT to Bring to the Beach this Spring Break

With Spring Break just right around the corner, are you planning on heading to the beach? For this Spring Break, try leaving some things at home instead of tossing them in your beach bag.  Help the environment by leaving these few basic things behind and consider the alternatives.

1. Disposable Plastic

Leave the plastic bags, food wrappers, and containers at home. According to the Ocean Conservancy, over 7 million pounds of debris was collected at last year’s international coastal cleanup, which equates to around 10.3 million individual pieces of trash. Garbage left behind injures and kills thousands of marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds.

2. Glass Bottles

Glass isn’t easily seen in the sand and broken glass can cause injuries. Most people on the beach walk barefoot and babies often crawl around on the beach. Try leaving the glass bottles at home and use a stainless-steel bottle or Thermos instead.

3. Pets

Many beaches already prohibit pets or only allow them during certain hours. Be sure to check the rules and regulations before heading to the beach with your pet. If you do bring your pet, make sure to always clean up your pet's waste.
